The iPlex Video Headend Platform

OVERVIEW

COMPACT VIDEO PROCESSING THROUGHOUT THE NETWORK
Telcos can stay ahead of the competition by offering sophisticated new video services with SkyStream’s iPlex? Video Headend Platform. Delivering these new services requires bringing video processing closer to end users. iPlex is a full-featured solution whose compact size makes it ideally and uniquely suited for operation in multiple network locations. It excels as a headend platform for small to mid-sized deployments, or can operate as a regional, remote, local, and/or edge solution for video delivery. It also can support an existing headend platform, such as SkyStream’s Mediaplex-20? or any other standards-based DVB video headend, to expand service offerings.

iPlex is the first video headend platform of its kind:

  • All-in-one, ultra dense video encoding, processing, and routing in one rack unit (RU) chassis
  • Flexible, modular architecture enables customization, upgradeability
  • System management that works right out of the box

iPlex BENEFITS

All-In-One, Ultra Dense Video Encoding, Processing, and Routing

Directly stemming from the high-density and highperformance video processing architecture of SkyStream’s Mediaplex-20, the iPlex features up to 8 professional-quality MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC encoders and 2 built-in Gigabit Ethernet interfaces in a compact 1 RU chassis, the first platform of its kind.
Like the Mediaplex, iPlex is capable of streaming identical programming to multiple network interfaces–GigE, ATM, and/or ASI – at the same time, supporting hybrid network environments with ease.

Flexible, Modular Architecture Enables Customization, Upgradeability

The telecommunications video industry has seen a number of technology changes over the past few years, including variations in last mile technology, in video compression and in equipment options. SkyStream’s iPlex is a video headend platform that doesn’t lock service providers into specific video architectures. Its modular technology allows service providers to obtain their perfect system now and in the future. Through the customized build of a complete selection of functional sub-modules, service providers can rapidly roll out new features and breakthrough services to meet customers’changing requirements.
The rich library of network and I/O interfaces available with iPlex enables customization for demographic or geographic needs. Service providers can get the performance they need today and upgrade tomorrow without throwing away their investment as their needs and market requirements change.

System Management that Works Right Out of the Box

iPlex’s compact size, web-based management, and open SNMP interfaces, make it perfectly suited for fast deployment in locations at the network’s edge or regional sites without adding headcount or extensive training.
